Our Story

How it all started...

Ridgewood Missionary Baptist has stood as an institution for faith and community since 1925.  This church was established as a home for Christians to worship; a place where people can give their lives to causes and ideals that manifest the existence of God and eternal life.

Our story began in 1925 (Rev. Zachariah Dennis) with the "foundational generation" of church members who worked to establish Ridgewood's first ministries. The first sanctuary was established under Rev. Jeremiah Witherspoon's pastorate (1955-1967) and along with those that came before, this generation of chruch members was noted for their social action and rise to cultural causes for the community. Rev. Levi C. Chavous led the congregation to what would become decades' worth  (1967-2008) of expansion and opportunity for community involvement, programs, community service, and continued interpersonal growth. Rev. Fred W. Coit led us into forward movement (2008-June 2024) as the church continued  to grow on its established foundations of faith, family, community and service. His tenure came with updates to business operations, new ministries and committees along with the appointment of Rev. Graves as Exectutive Pastor.
